AUGUST 2008: MONTH OF THE GIRL

For August ‘08 we’re adding a theme to [IGSMMTITMP]. This month is Month Of The Girl - that means every post will feature some sort of female interaction. Whether it’s a female vocalist, prominent female guest voice, a guest ladyrap, female singer song writers, WHATEVER, you will hear the sounds of the fairer sex this month. Get ready to be wooed.

We’re also in the process of making changes and upgrading this blog to be better and more functional. We’ve added a toolbar that lets you listen to all audio post uploads in a row (via this guy). And we’re working on getting some information on your monthly posters so you know who is posting what and when.

Until then, enjoy!

She & Him- Change is Hard

Personally, I would like to collaborate with M. Ward, especially with that slide guitar action happening. I also like songs with lyrics that promote feelings of longing and regret.

“I did him wrong.
I was never no, never no, never enough,
But I can try, I can try to toughen up.
I listened when they told me
If he burns you, let him go.
Change is hard, I should know.”

Maow - Ms. Lefevre

I love Neko Case. Partly because I love the New Pornographers, one of the bands she is in. I have all their albums and they put on an amazing concert. In my early college years, I was really into pop punk and got into this Canadian girl band named Cub. I bought a compilation CD for their Canadian label with them and a bunch of their labelmates on there, and Maow was one of the bands on it. They were random and weird and very female angsty, but I liked their songs. It wasn’t til about 10 years later that I realized that Neko Case was the drummer for Maow, who I’d been listening to all these years. And it wasn’t til I uploaded this that I realized she plays drums and sings on this song. Ten long years, and I’d been listening to someone who I’d later come to appreciate so much more in an artistic manner. No matter what anyone tells you friends, LIFE and MUSIC keep giving. And that….is beautiful. (fade out, fart)

Laurie Anderson - “Let x=x”

I post because I care.  Her weirdness is infectious, and doesn’t even strike me as dated.  (from Big Science, 1982)
